What is Jade?
The term jade actually refers to two different minerals: jadeite and nephrite. Both have been prized for centuries for their durability and smooth lustre, with jadeite generally being the rarer variety. Today, jade remains one of the world's most recognisable gemstones and is valued for both its appearance and cultural significance.
Q & A
This is a typical question we receive at Sarah Beth Jewellers
‘Is this necklace Jadeite or Nephrite?’
Alan’s reply
All good, not a problem for you to ask,
It’s real natural untreated, non-colour enhanced or dyed jade with real natural diamonds
The piece that you get is the actual one in the photos, its best to view the video, as each piece comes in completely different each time,
Jadeite or Nephrite? That’s a tricky one to answer clearly, all our jade are real jade stones,
There is so much information out there it is confusing to know which one is better. I’m a jeweller with over 37 years of experience & still can’t give a straight answer,
The necklaces are beautiful pendants in the flesh,
If you do choose to order so you can to see it, we offer a full money back refund, (not a credit note), all you lose is the postage costs coming back,
Many Thanks Alan
Jade is a gemstone that has been used in jewellery and decorative objects for over 5,000 years. It has been highly valued across many cultures, particularly in Asia, where it has long symbolised purity, harmony and protection.
Although jade is most commonly recognised for its rich green colour, it can also appear in several other shades including pale green, white, lavender and yellow. The most prized jade is often a vibrant translucent green that glows beautifully when polished.
High quality jade has a smooth texture and a gentle translucency that gives it a soft, elegant shine. When crafted into jewellery, this natural beauty makes every piece unique.
The Meaning and Benefits of Jade
Jade, referred to as the stone of heaven as far back as 5,000 years, with its roots in folklore, it holds a long spiritual and cultural history.
Jade has long been believed to be associated with positive energy and balance. In traditional gemstone beliefs it is thought to promote harmony, creativity and emotional well-being. Many people wear jade jewellery not only for its beauty but also for its symbolic meaning.
Jade is often worn close to the heart as a jade necklace or jade pendant, where it is believed to support feelings of calmness and inner peace. The stone has traditionally been linked with protection and good fortune, making it a meaningful gift for loved ones.
Whether you appreciate jade for its history, symbolism or simply its appearance, it remains one of the most fascinating gemstones used in jewellery today
Jade measures approximately 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs hardness scale, making it a relatively durable gemstone for everyday wear. Although it is not as hard as diamond, it resists scratching well when properly cared for, making jade jewellery suitable for regular use while still benefiting from sensible handling and storage.
How to Care for Jade Jewellery
Jade is a durable gemstone, but like all fine jewellery it should be treated with care to maintain its natural shine.
It is best to remove jade jewellery before showering, swimming or using household chemicals, as these can dull the polished surface of the stone over time.
To clean jade jewellery, simply wipe the stone gently with a soft damp cloth, then dry it with a clean cloth. The silver or gold setting can be polished using a jewellery polishing cloth to restore its original shine.
Store jade jewellery separately from harder gemstones such as diamonds or sapphires to reduce the risk of scratches.
By caring for your jade jewellery properly, it will continue to look beautiful for many years to come.

This lovely gemstone would make a wonderful gift for milestone birthdays as it reflects growth and personal achievement. When given for the 18th or 21st birthday it can symbolise adulthood and strength. Whilst as a present for a 30th or 40th birthday the gift of Jade represents wisdom, prosperity and self growth.
Consider someone's style when choosing jade what do they prefer, a statement necklace with a wow factor, or small delicate understated jewellery with paler jade tones. Maybe they have a classic style and discerning nature.
Whether you are looking for a meaningful gift or a unique addition to your own jewellery collection, jade jewellery offers a classic and distinctive choice. All this safe in the knowledge that you will receive the actual piece you have chosen and not something similar.
